An axial fan is a type of fan that causes gas to flow through it in an axial direction, parallel to the shaft about which the blades rotate. The flow is axial at entry and exit. The fan is designed to produce a pressure difference, and hence force to cause a flow through the fan. Factors which determine the performance of the fan include the number and shape of the blades. Fans have many applications including in wind tunnels and cooling towers. Design parameters include power, Flow Rate, pressure rise and efficiency.

An inline exhaust fan is best defined as a fan that is mounted inline (inside or connected to ducting) that is used for extraction purposes. An inline fan does not sit directly on the plasterboard or ceiling, instead it is typically located inside the attic or roof space a little bit further away from the room.
Benefits of using an inline fan
Reduced Noise As the fan is located further away in the roof space and not directly above you the noise levels within the room you are extracting from will be less.
High Power Inline fans are available in large sizes with very high power motors. Quite often this type of power is simply not available from a standard ceiling mounted or wall mounted extraction fan.
Length of duct run Inline fans are engineered to work with ducting. This means they will retain a greater percentage of their advertised capacity in comparison to basic extraction fans. This is particularly useful if you have a great distance from the extraction point to the outlet.
For example if you want to extract your bathroom to a roof vent and the distance is relatively long (6m or more). This makes the fans useful for other applications such as heat transfer and sub floor ventilation.
More than one intake point With an inline fan it is possible to create multiple inlet or outlets by using a Y Junction or BTO. This is particularly useful if you have a large room and wish to have 2 intake points, or again for a heat transfer kit that services multiple rooms.

United Star Dubai’s bifurcated axial fan motors are specially selected to operate within the motor compartment with the airstream in the duct system, at an elevated temperature. The motors are of the B3 foot mounting type, totally enclosed and fan cooled and being foot mounted the motors can, in the event of a failure, be readily interchanged with a comparable frame size from a wide range of manufacturers to cover temperatures of up to 200°C. Bifurcated (or bif fans) are inline axial flow fans where the motor has been taken out of the airstream which allows the fan to operate at higher temperatures. They are suitable for medium to high volume applications with low pressure development.
